Officially Rangers Fans

What a great week! The week started off on a great note when Matt and Hilary Romney stopped by our apartment on their way from New Mexico to Baton Rouge! We had an awesome Sunday night with them and were so excited we got to see them before they moved to Louisiana! We, of course, spent the evening with them watching The Bachelorette season finale. We were all so happy she chose Jef! Matt and Taylor were really into it too ;) We can't wait to go visit them in the Bayou!

Taylor got started with some more Teach for America training this week and left me at home all alone during the day on Wednesday through Friday. Luckily he only has a few more days of training this week before he gets some time off to stay home and plan lessons and get ready for the first day of school.

Friday night was a fun "relaxing" night and we decided to just sit around, have some Panda Express, make some chocolate chip cookies, and watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. It was fun to just hang out together after not seeing much of each other during the week.

On Saturday we got to go to our first Rangers game since moving to Texas. Our friends from our branch, Brady and Casey, invited us to go with them and it was amazing. We had great seats and the atmosphere is so much different than a Royals game. It's nice to support a team that actually wins! Although, sadly, they didn't pull out a victory in our first game. But we did have a great time and even got our first taste of Texas BBQ at the game. It was no OK Joes, but it was pretty good.

I officially started my new calling as the Young Women's second counselor at the branch today. I'm excited to get to know the girls! They are all so nice and are fun to be around. Can't wait to serve and have fun doing it!

Cowboys Stadium was right next to the Rangers Stadium

Busy, Busy

It's been a crazy week in Dallas! This was our "getting settled" week and it's been a busy one. At the beginning of the week, we got to spend plenty of time in auto shops while we got the car and scooter inspected. We even got to drive the scooter from our apartment to downtown Dallas to get it inspected at the right place! That was a little bit scary for both of us but we did find out that we are only 5 minutes away from downtown. After we got our cars inspected, we spent a few hours at the DMV getting all our license plates and registrations. Exciting!!

One major highlight of the week was going to Peter Pan the Musical on Tuesday night with some new friends from our branch. We had pretty good seats and it was an awesome theatre! We are thinking of buying season tickets there next year, since Wicked, Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Catch Me if You Can will all be in town. It's right next to the Cotton Bowl, which is about 10 minutes away. It seems like we are close to everything in Dallas!

The latter part of the week was spent at Sunset High School, where we tried to clean out Taylor's new room. His room was the Geology room last year and there were rocks everywhere. In drawers, cabinets, on shelves ... everywhere we looked there were more rocks. But, while we were cleaning out the room, the Sunset Athletic Director surprised us by coming up unannounced to interview Taylor for a recently open coaching job. I waited while Taylor got interviewed, and he came back a half hour later with awesome news: He got hired as the varsity defensive backs coach for the football team! He is so excited! Practice starts August 9 and their first game is September 7. Looks like I'll be all alone on Friday nights this fall ... but I'll be at all his games of course! He will also be coaching a second sport but they haven't decided what that will be just yet.

We have a busy week ahead but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We get to go to our first Rangers game next Saturday night!!

All Moved In!! Almost ...

Taylor is finally back from Houston!! He finished his 5-week training with Teach for America on Friday and now we are both in Dallas for good! The move in process actually started a week ago when Taylor got to come up to Dallas before his last week in Houston. We moved all of our stuff in on Saturday and then Taylor had to head back to Houston on Sunday. Even though it was a crazy weekend, we did squeeze in time to make some homemade cookies on Saturday night, which made us feel right at home. I was left in a new apartment full of boxes with no bed and no furniture. Luckily, we bought some new couches and a mattress that got delivered Monday afternoon, so I only had to sleep on the floor for one night.

Taylor had a great last week in Houston as he finished up teaching his summer school class. He taught 11th grade chemistry at Madison High School in Houston and loved his class. It was made up of students that had previously failed chemistry and had to retake it during the summer. They started off by taking a pretest the first day and averaged a 24.9%. On Tuesday Taylor, or "Mr. Wilson" as they know him, administered the final exam, and they averaged an 85%! Mr. Wilson's test scores were the highest average in the entire school and I am very proud of him :).

We've also had a chance to start attending our new branch, the Oak Cliff 3rd Branch. It's relatively small but we have been so welcomed. The people are very nice and we have already been invited over for dinner twice. We are looking forward to being a part of the community for the next 2 years.

This week will be crazy while we try to get everything together for our apartment and life in Dallas. It's amazing how much you need to do when you move to a new city and state! Taylor will start first year teacher training next week and can't wait to start teaching at Sunset High.

Now that we are settled our blogging should be more consistent, we're thinking every Sunday. Life in Dallas will be an exciting adventure!
