Taylor's Birthday!

It's been awhile! Life gets so busy, but everything is going great. Over the last couple of weeks we have celebrated Taylor's birthday, bought a crib, ran a 5k, and celebrated the Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. The birthday came first and Taylor is officially an old man at 23. To make him feel better about getting old, I woke up extra early to make him some cinnamon muffins before work. As you can see, he really appreciated it!

We both had busy days (his birthday was on a Wednesday) but when he came home we had some delicious homemade pizzas. Then we opened up the presents, which featured a couple books, End of Watch, and cards from the family. Oh, and some of his students brought him an awesome Oreo birthday cake, complete with candles and everything. We continued the celebration on the weekend with a four-course dinner at PF Changs. We had planned on eating alone, but randomly bumped into our friends from Teach for America, and it made for an even better night. Overall, I think the 23rd celebration went quite well!

We woke up early on Saturday morning to head down the road for the annual Dash for the Beads, a 5K held in Oak Cliff. To make it more fun, and give the team some competition experience, Taylor had 11 girls from the track team sign up as well. I was the photographer for the event and, even though it was way too cold for Texas, it was really fun. Taylor got 23rd overall (out of 1400!), and three of the Sunset girls placed in the top 10 of the under-19 age division. I'll have to get used to watching running on Saturdays, since track season is officially underway on Feb. 23.

It seems like every other week some of our friends host an awesome party/get together, and this month has been no different. We went to a Chinese New Year's Eve gathering with some friends who spend quite a bit of time in China every year. The food was authentic, including entire fish just set out on the table, which I guess is normal, just not for the Wilsons! It was a fun night that was, as always, centered around fantastic food!
